In my gallery I have 9 different species of Crescents and this one has been mostly seen here in Atenas. See my GALLERY: Pale-banded Crescent, Anthanassa tulcis (linked). Here’s three different views in my garden this June and the damaged wings you may have noticed on other butterfly photos I’ve shared this year. It is the wind! Though not all the time like January, it is blowing just as hard here in June, which is not normal! I believe it is a part of the human-caused climate change. Also note that this one is on one of my few Milkweed Flowers, which is also attracting other species, so I want to find another sunny spot for more.

And two more different view photos . . .

¡Pura Vida!
Many Americans are Leaving the U.S. and Costa Rica is a top Destination
This article in Tico Times reports on a Conde Nast article about where the thousands of Americans who leave are going: Costa Rica Makes Global Top 16 for North Americans Moving Abroad
The article also reports that about 120,000 U.S. citizens now live in Costa Rica. And according to the U.S. IRS, at least 60,000 are retirees, because that is how many SS Checks they send to Costa Rica every month. 🙂 Exact numbers are difficult to come by because of many different ways people are here. And a whole lot more young adults now because of their jobs as “Digital Nomads.” I’ve had two of these as neighbors already, but many of the young don’t stay in one place more than a year (trying different countries), or many for less time than that. 🙂 Ohhhhh, to be young and adventurous! 🙂
And how many of those live in the little coffee farming town of Atenas, where I live? Again, it is difficult to get an exact count, but Google quotes International Living Magazine saying: “An estimated 1,500 to 2,500 U.S. citizens and international expats live in Atenas, Costa Rica. Because Costa Rica’s immigration department does not publicly track expat populations town-by-town, precise official counts are difficult to isolate. However, localized real estate and community data provide a clear picture of the demographic layout.”
