I have the largest book I can find on butterflies and moths in Costa Rica and yet I continue to find and photograph live specimens not in my books nor can I find on the many websites – a little frustrating for someone who likes to label everything! 🙂 But anyway, here’s my newest unidentified butterfly/moth found in my garden in Atenas, Alajuela, Costa Rica:

Hi Charlie, have you tried using inaturalist? You can often search for moths in your area or ask do help with identification. Great picture!
Thanks so much Mark! I have been on the iNaturalist site before but not made it a regular go-to nor am I a member yet. I just browsed through their butterflies and moths for awhile and did not find it, but with over 7 million observations, it could take a lot of “browsing” and then I found that some member photos don’t have species name attached yet, but I will have to decide whether that is my organization to work through or not.
