Well, that is what iNaturalist AI said. 🙂 I’m beginning to depend on them for a lot of nature identifications and they will even say when they are not sure or sometimes they only name or suggest a more general category, like genus, tribe or family. It is very similar to eBird’s Merlin, though Merlin doesn’t suggest categories but just simply says they are unable to identify sometimes. And of course the quality of the photo affects both apps’ ability to determine an ID. Plus I often double check their ID with a book or other website or their own website species pages. Identifications can be a challenge, but with good AI and many scientists eventually identifying on iNaturalist, it is my go-to place for all nature except birds which I defer to eBird as first choice.
