Matthew’s Groundstreak

Another new species of butterfly! And that is pretty good with this being a year of overall fewer butterflies seen! 🙂 This one is in the Gossamer Wings Family and sub-family of Hairstreaks, scientific name Rubroserrata mathewi and common name of Matthew’s Groundstreak. And this is another one of those tiny, fingernail sized butterflies which seem to be handling the wind and lack of rain better this year. Here’s four photos of this new species, all shot in my garden:

¡Pura Vida!

And oh yes! HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY! to all the wonderful mothers in Costa Rica! Today is Costa Rica’s Mother’s Day and a very special holiday where mothers are highly respected in every way every day! It has always impressed me when I walk downtown to see a teenager or young adult walking hand in hand with his mother or with his arm around her (and yes, boys as well as girls). It is a loving affection and respect seen the year around! One of the many strengths of this wonderful country!
