Banded Peacock + Our Tropical Fjord!

The most common butterfly in my garden this year and one of the most common every year since I’ve lived here now nearly 11 years. But still a fine and interesting butterfly as is his cousin the White Peacock. You can see some of my other photos in the gallery Banded Peacock, Anartia fatima.

CR’s Golfo Dulce – 1 of Only 4 Tropical Fjords!

We tend to think Scandinavian when we think fjords (deep underwater canyons) but there are four tropical fjords and one of those is in Costa Rica surrounded by an exceptional amount of wildlife plus what is in the water! Yesterday’s Tico Times has this interesting article: Why Golfo Dulce Remains Wild in Southern Costa Rica which tells you a little more about our tropical fjord.

Map copied from the Tico Times article.

And those of you who read my blog regularly already know that area is one of my many favorites to visit in Costa Rica at both of the two National Parks on either side of the Golfo Dulce: Corcovado & Piedras Blancas. On four sides of Corcovado I’ve visited Aguila de Osa Lodge, Danta Corcovado Lodge, Bosque de Cabo Lodge and Luna Lodge, while at Piedras Blancas I’ve chosen Esquinas Rainforest Lodge (3 times) & Playa Cativo Lodge. All have been very productive locations for nature photography! 🙂

¡Pura Vida!
