Blue-gray Satyr

This Blue-gray Satyr, Magneuptychia libye (linked to iNaturalist Costa Rica where there are 307 observations of this species which is a new species for me!) and it makes my 22nd species of Satyrs! 🙂 My galleries for these are at the bottom of the Nymphalidae – BRUSHFOOTS Family Gallery, my largest family of butterflies, though just a little larger than the Skipper! 🙂

¡Pura Vida!

And more about those migrants that the U.S. dumped on Costa Rica . . .

Costa Rica Reprimanded for Assisting Trump!

The Tico Times English new article: Costa Rica Faces Backlash Over Migrant Detentions and Rights Abuses tells how Costa Rica’s desire to help migrants and her rich U.S. neighbor when requested (or be punished by Trump if you don’t accept his request), accepted hundreds of deported migrants and is now being scolded by international organizations for not providing legal and other assistance in their native languages from Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. The small amount the U.S. pays Costa Rica does not provide what is legally required for people who cannot return home because of threats from the Taliban or similar groups in other countries. Yet Trump refused to provide the legally required help, then dumps them here with no provisions for CR to help them. What a cruel & mean place the U.S. has become!

No Pura Vida for these families!

  1. Hi Charlie,

And the TN Highway Patrol is making traffic stops in Nashville and then letting ICE seize folks from the cars. The numbers I’ve heard are 600 traffic stops, 94 people detained, and maybe 5 or 6 actual criminals found. It has terrorized our immigrant neighbors.

  2. Thanks Robbie, for sharing that! I keep up with the major U.S. news but not Tennessee now and you just stated one more reason (of many) that I’m glad to be here instead of there! 🙂 The future of the U.S., especially right-wing states like Tennessee, looks very bleak to me.

But the Costa Rican president and government should have had the guts to say “No” to Trump! And I suspect that it had a little to do with the money offered but even more to the fear of Trump’s reprisal if they had rejected his request.

    1. Tennessee isn’t going to make national news when this kind of behavior is going on everywhere. Yes, it is very discouraging to see how the US is becoming authoritarian, but some of us are resisting.

I am glad you are in Costa Rica.
