Not good quality photos, but they show what you can see at Tortuguero and then tomorrow I will have some more small “land birds” to share. But here are my efforts to catch these last 4 water birds . . .
Anhinga
Yellow-crowned Night-Heron
Neotropic Cormorant
Green Ibis
Yellow-crowned Night-Heron, Tortuguero NP, Costa Rica
This morning’s rain not only interfered with a beautiful sunrise but also dampened my birding expedition with a great guide this morning. I try not to give up too quickly on such efforts, but did cut our hike a little shorter after my camera fogged up on the inside. All 12 of the following birds were photographed in the rain even if not obvious! 🙂 And we saw more birds and other animals, even in the rain! 🙂 Just imagine what it would have been like with a clear morning!
Arranged in the order presented in the book The Birds of Costa Rica, A Field Guide by Garrigues & Dean which puts families and similar birds together.

And did you see the Birds in Flight posted yesterday? Including 3 more species not included here.
Plus note that we saw a lot more birds than what I included here, just my only decent photos!
AND this was my first time to go to and from Tarcoles on public bus. Cheap & fun! Going down was a breeze, but we got wrong info on our return bus and ended up going through San Jose, but oh well, all part of the adventure! 🙂

We saw some other birds but no good photos because of distance, trees, etc. I did not get any photos of new species for my collection on this trip as hoped. We did see toucans, parrots and many other birds but unable to photograph. Tomorrow I will share photos of other animals seen at Corcovado & Drake Bay.
Juvenile Yellow-crowned Night Heron Mangroves off Drake Bay, Costa Rica
Today’s boat trip was one of the best with Carlos leading and we seeing more animals and birds than seen in the National Park! I am physically exhausted and a tiny bit sunburned from a clear, sunny morning, but tomorrow I rest with only a little bird walk before breakfast and maybe some more exploring on my on. Then Saturday afternoon I return home. Its been a very good week! Great staff at Aguila Inn! It is kind of nice to be pampered a little every once in a while which so many of these lodges in Costa Rica do!
About the photo: Because his is juvenile, he does not have his “yellow crown” which may make you question if he is. He was standing straight which was okay, but then did this one-leg thing with his wing out that I thought made a more interesting photo. And yes, the heliconia flower is growing wild in this particular mangrove forest. Another cool place! And all my photos had to be made on my phone today because the good camera is not working. I have it in a bag of uncooked rice hoping it is just the humidity. Very humid on the coast! And mechanical things can be a pain sometimes!
Yellow-crowned Night Heron, Tortuguero, Costa Rica
From our Tortuguero Trip last week I have already shown photos of 3 Species of Toucans, a Sungrebe, a Red-lored Parrot, and a Snowy Egret. And here are about 15 more species that I got photos of plus of course seeing others. You can see why I love Tortuguero! And a few of these were first-time sightings for me which will be added to my Birds of Costa Rica Photo Gallery.

On March 24, our first night at Manuel Antonio, we had a slow internet connection and I only shared one beach sunset photo. Here’s a few of many from our stop on the Tarcoles River enroute to beach.
Yellow-headed Caracara Tarcoles River, Costa Rica
Striped Basilisk Tarcoles River, Costa Rica

This was my third time on the Tarcoles River and we always see and photograph more than 20 species of birds along with the promoted crocs and usually basilisks and iguanas plus some other lizards. That night I got lots of different kinds of beach sunset photos. Here’s one more I just have to show:
