More Water Scenes from Bocas

You may remember my first post from this trip, Life on the Water – check it out again and then here are some more water scenes in addition to that post and the Bird Island & Soropta Canal photos! It is all about water at Bocas del Toro, Panama!

A Little Island within swimming distance of our dock
This was the best area for snorkeling with colorful coral and fish!

I think this is a lodge or restaurant on one of the islands

And many people lived on the islands and thus on the water as here in Bocas Town

Experimenting with New Book Binding

This is a “heavy paper” special binding so all pages “lay flat” with none of a two-page photo lost in the gutter. I am experimenting and will decide if it is worth the much higher cost when I do a book like this with all 2-page spreads or panoramas. You can review every page electronically online in the bookstore by clicking the link or click the cover image above. Best seen “Full Page” as always.

Sunrise and WiFi Problem

The sun actually rises to the far right in this photo, but sometimes affects all the sky.

WIFI PROBLEM

My absence for several days on the blog is due to no internet connection which I first blamed on my provider Cable Tica and could not get a telephone tech whose Spanish I understood or one of the few with English. After 3 days I realized the problem was not them but my local router which took another 3 days to fix because of a holiday yesterday. There is a button on top of the router I am told not to touch and it is hard to not touch it because prominently placed. When I touch it the router is wiped clean and needs to be reprogrammed for my network. Grrrr. I took it into shop to be programmed but evidently the button was pressed again on the way home in my backpack. So today I had a technician come to my house and fix it without me touching it!

Well, anyway, it is fixed now and I can be back online. I did not realize how much I used the internet until without it several days! Lots of catch up blogs needed!  And a trip Friday!

Tambor Tropical Resort

Sunrise Over Tambor Bay
You don’t expect a sunrise over the Pacific, but it depends on angle of peninsula or bay!
When no clouds on horizon, you see the big orange ball at the end of that point on right. See below.

Scarlet Macaw
Several families literally lived on hotel property with 3 nest boxes.
It could easily be called the “Scarlet Macaw Hotel”  🙂

Interesting People Too!

They host several birding tours a year plus the Cornell annual bird count and it is known as a good place for birders with an on-property nature trail and 3 public trails along the river beside the hotel. And now the “Tambor Turtles” volunteer program takes place on the beach by the hotel with opportunities for guests to collect eggs or release babies at the right time of year.

My trip gallery for this trip: 2017 Christmas Week Tambor Bay

This is my blog post about the hotel and I hardily recommend it as a hotel and the area for both birding and relaxation! I just spent 5 nights and can’t imagine staying fewer! You need time to get to know a place and benefit from it! 4 or 5 nights is my minimum stay almost anywhere in Costa Rica!

Finishing My Caribe Report with Galleries

For my last morning’s sunrise I watch fishermen go out. And . . .
Below are four categories of my photos not shown yet
all linked to sub-galleries in this trip gallery with

These all represent things I found interesting in the Costa Rica Caribe and made a lot of photos of each. The linked title takes you to a sub-gallery on that subject with most birds in the Samasati gallery. Or to just thumb through my whole Caribe Trip, go to the trip gallery:

Too many clouds for a traditional sunrise this morning, but I thought this shot to left of the sun was okay.

This morning I decided to not keep posting so many photos on the blog, thus began my trip photo gallery for this experience where you can find lots of photos! Since this was to be the hotel post today, I will give links to three sub-galleries on the very relaxed and enjoyable Hotel Banana Azul:

Or for the whole trip, go to my trip photo gallery called
2017 Sept 4-8 — Caribe Banana Azul Puerto Viejo
including my visit to Cahuita National Park & Samasati Reserve

And/or check out the Hotel Banana Azul Web Page
And plan ahead! They stay booked solid much of the time,
even in the “off season” which it is now.
This new caribe gallery is the latest of my “TRIPS” Photo Galleries
where I am working backwards to document my Costa Rica trips
and neighboring countries’ trips in my bigger CR gallery:
At the time of this posting, I’m back to July 2015
and the trips started in January 2015!
Almost finished! Travel with Kevin is next!

Sunrise at Drake Bay

Sunrise from my cabin at Aguila Inn
Drake Bay, Costa Rica
You generally awake early here with 5 am sunrise, birds singing and today howler monkeys! Three of us guests had a 5:30 am two-hour birding walk down the bay to town of Drake Bay, up in the hills, and back to lodge for 8 am breakfast. A good morning, seeing a lot of birds, though my only camera is the cellphone, which means not as many photos. My camera has been in a bag of rice for two days, and still doesn’t work, so it may not be humidity. Just don’t know.
Relaxing around the lodge the rest of today with maybe a walk through forest. I’m posting this in the morning today, Friday, my last full day here. Tomorrow a relaxed morning here and a 2 pm flight back to San Jose and home by 4!
I highly recommend Aguila de Osa Inn! Relaxing place, fantastic food, great tours and other possible activities.
