Beginning with this post the birds are being presented alphabetically by name and I never intended for them to be in order of my favorites, though the first two, Quetzal and Sunbittern, were chosen specifically to begin the series as maybe the two most dramatic of my bird photos! 🙂
This Crimson-collared Tanager (eBird description) was actually photographed in Nicaragua on one of my two birding trips to this next door neighbor of Costa Rica, though I do have photos of this bird made in Costa Rica with one included below, just not as strong an image as this featured photo. The Backstory
El Jaguar Reserve & Lodge, Jinotega, Nicaragua is one of the two birding lodges I visited on my first of two trips to Nicaragua in 2016. It is an old coffee farm and thus the photo of this bird on the flower of a coffee plant! 🙂 I was the only guest there my two days and thus had the guide solo for at least 3 hikes a day. On one of these we walked through the still maintained coffee plants and thus this photo of a beautiful bird on a beautiful flowering coffee plant. Maquenque Lodge & Reserve, Boca Tapada, Costa Rica is where the photo at left of a Crimson-collared Tanager was made. It is one of my favorite places in Costa Rica and my number 1 lodge for the number of species of birds photographed.
Plus I can stay in a Tree House room which is so much fun and great for photographing some birds and all of the monkeys. I didn’t make this image my feature image because I like the other one so much better! But it is okay. 🙂 See the Maquenque TRIP GALLERY linked below.
The Roads of Orosi Valley near El Copal Reserve was one of the places my guide took me birding during my week in Orosi, on the roads because the reserve was closed. 🙂 I hope to get back there sometime when the reserve is opened which is infrequently. I got just one photo in a tree from a distance, but we know that they are there! 🙂 See my TRIP GALLERY linked below from this trip for other birds I found in the area.
