Lucky Lizard + Tanager

The lizard is lucky because Scarlet-rumped Tanagers don’t eat lizards! 🙂 When I photographed the Tanager I did not notice the lizard below him until the image was enlarged on my laptop screen. Bigger birds eat lizards this size! 🙂

Scarlet-rumpedd Tanager and an Unidentified Lizard.

¡Pura Vida!

I’ve galleries on two varieties of Scarlet-rumped Tanagers:

Passerini’s or Caribbean Slope

Cherrie’s or Pacific Slope

  1. Yes – dad-burn it! “They” (whoever names birds) are always changing names, which makes it hard on birders, but they say they have their reasons. 🙂

    “Passerini’s Tanager” is now “Scarlet-rumped Tanager, Passerini’s”

    “Cherrie’s Tanager is now “Scarlet-rumped Tanager, Cherrie’s”

The first is on Caribbean Slope from Nicaragua through Panama and the second on Pacific Slope and only in Costa Rica. The male is pretty much identical in both but the female has some differences.

    🙂
