This was a great multi-purpose trip!
TAMPA--ST. PETERSBURG
I drove from Nashville to St. Petersburg where my old college roommate Clyde Butts lived. We used his two days off to visit and some sightseeing in the area. I got whole sets of photos from:
Tampa Lowery Park Zoo
Sawgrass Park
Treasure Island Beach for sunset
And we ate out multiple times with Cuban food my favorite on that trip! And I got a good start on many nature photos during the visit. I saw and drove over the big skyline bridge the last morning on my way to
VENICE ROOKERY
Which is just an island full of trees in a lake behind the Venice, Florida City Hall - but a big WOW! It was covered in nesting egrets, great blue herons and anhingas. I have never seen so many nesting birds in one place. I guess I spent an hour+ photographing birds here and then drove on to
FT. MYERS
I stayed in the Hampton Inn here for the weekend Arts & Craft Fair over the bridge to Sanibel Island. The show was okay, but didn't make enough money for the expenses. It was still fun to just do shows and meet people and make a few sales. I also did some more nature and wildlife photography at
Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge
Little Estero Lagoon
Six-Mile Slough
So the photography was probably more productive than the art show. Ate at several different restaurants in the area and then after the show drove south for a day at
CORKSCREW SWAMP
Which I think had more birds than the famous Ding Darling Refuge and this was where I found a lot of Wood Storks. It was enjoyable and with lots of photos!
Then the long drive back to Nashville. It was a good nature photo trip.
